2019 forest

“2019 forest,” watercolor and color pencil on printed copy of fountain pen original done on-site, 2019.  Did the base drawing in June 2019 in Beargrass Creek State Nature Preserve.  Wanted to apply as many different colors as I could to emphasize the vastness of leaves in a forest. The picture above was scanned at only at 300 dpi in order to make a small enough file for the website to accept. But I print and scan at 600 dpi for all drawings sold here, including this one.

Unmatted image is 9 15/16 x 13 13/16 inches.  Limited edition run of fifty.

forest horizon iii

“forest horizon iii,” pen and ink and watercolor pencil on printed copy of pencil original done on-site, 2019.  Last in my panoramic view of the trees on Bellarmine and Joe Creason Park (with maybe a bit of Beargrass Creek State Nature Preserve just before and behind the tree in the foreground on the right side).  One of the reasons I did a wide view was to attempt to show a good cloudscape, after noticing that many landscape drawings leave the clouds out.

Unmatted image is 7 1/2 x 9 13/16 inches.  Limited edition run of fifty.

scribbledruids

“scribbledruids,” watercolor pencil. fountain pen, micron pencil, ballpoint pen and pencil, 2019.  Fourth attempt at drawing a window reflection, only this time with the intention of placing faces in there as well, with the faces being copies of faces I saw in old cut lumber and trees.  Added some light and dark brown watercolor pencil to some of the lines to clarify.  Finally got to see what a Scribbledruid looked like.

Unmatted drawing is 9 5/8 x 7 inches.  Limited edition run of fifty.

extremely online

“extremely online,” ballpoint pen and watercolor on printed copy of pencil original, 2019.  Artists often draw even the faces of very different people the same way, so I tried drawing faces from knots and other patterns in old lumber and trees.  Ended up with this cyclops goblin.  Added the hands and neck, then applied watercolor over uninked pencil for a more jellyfish-like look.  Splashed watercolor across the top and added two-tone pointilism after that.  Done about the time I quit Facebook.

Unmatted image is 10 x 6 3/4 inches.  Limited edition run of fifty.

cafe interior

“cafe interior,” watercolor pencil and ballpoint pen on printed copy of pencil original, 2019.  Drew the basic view of the main room of Safai Coffee in Louisville in early May, 2019, starting in fountain pen but quickly switching to pencil to make accuracy easier, leaving out any people present.  Manually transferred it in all pencil to a new page and then added figures I made up.  Applied color over a period of several weeks.  Try the crepes at this place.

Unmatted image is 7 3/8 x 10 inches.  Limited edition run of fifty.

intersection

“intersection,” watercolor pencil, fountain pen and ballpoint pen on printed copy of pencil original, 2019.  Did an 11″ x 13.25″ drawing of an old police station building from the window of a bookstore across the road on a hot day in July 2019.  Didn’t like it that there wasn’t much of the surroundings in there, so I did a looser version, drawing the buildings, streets, telephone wires from memory and and adding made-up people after that.  Thought a representational coloring would be too boring, and so tried for something more.

Unmatted image is 9 7/8 x 12 1/8 inches.  Limited edition run of fifty.

dragon and bee

“dragon and bee,” watercolor and ballpoint pen on printed copy of ink original, 2019.  Inktober is an exercise in which you draw something based on a different keyword for each day of October.  This is the one I did for October 12, 2019 (“dragon”).  Added the color and the bee sometime later.

Unmatted image is 9 15/16 x 6 13/16 inches.  Limited edition run of fifty.
